Another shocking death happened on last night’s episode of The Vampire Diaries. Though many of the fans are freaking out over it, I am not. I predicted this death weeks ago. Though I’m not stressing about the death of my favorite The Vampire Diaries season 5 character, it does make me wonder if all the deaths on The Vampire Diaries 2014 have lost their edge?

Remember way back when on The Vampire Diaries, when characters died and you freaked out? How much did you cry when Jenna died? Didn’t you hate Damon-even just a little-every time he killed someone you loved? Even as recent as Alaric, we mourned the dead on The Vampire Diaries. However, since Jeremy and Bonnie’s resurrections, the deaths on The Vampire Diaries season 5 have no stakes. We know that every person who dies this season may get a second shot at life, someway. As a viewer, doesn’t that make you care a little bit less when your favorites die? As a diehard Stefan fan, when he died on last night’s episode of The Vampire Diaries season 5 it just didn’t emotionally register. Here is why:
- We continue to see these characters now through Bonnie. Prior to Bonnie’s anchor status, we rarely saw the dead, even with Jeremy’s ghost whisper powers. Now being able to see those characters who died whenever we want, doesn’t give us time to miss them.
- We know Stefan will be resurrected somehow, someway. He’s one-third of the main cast on The Vampire Diaries season 5. And as much as people like to keep shows’ secrets, a secret that big would have leaked somewhere.
As much as I used to hate seeing characters on The Vampire Diaries die, I kind of prefer when they died and stayed dead. With this new world, we have to deal with some characters we rather see dead coming back. I’m looking at you, Enzo. We also barely blink when those we love on The Vampire Diaries season 5 meet their death.
By the end of this season The Vampire Diaries, a little of the drama with deaths will return…we think. If the Other Side really does close, this means everyone on it will cease to exist for good. Nevertheless, a few lucky souls will be spared, and of course those will be the ones we love the most, which hopefully includes Lexie, Kol, Alaric, Stefan, and NOT Enzo. I would like to see Bonnie and Tyler spared, but I don’t think this will be the case. In fact, my running theory is that Tyler chooses to actually crossover to finally obtain peace with his mother, which I can’t blame the poor kid with this fandom. On the other hand, even if the Other Side is destroyed, don’t you have a feeling that there will be yet another loophole to show the dead or bring them back in some form?
It pains us to say this, but it’s time The Vampire Diaries kills people off for good. At least that way, The Vampire Diaries production team will kill with caution.
